Carb Fail

Before I get into my carb fail, I wanted to update you on Friday's steps...you know, lead with something impressive and positive? haha

I ended up with 15,897 steps by the end of the day. I went home and soaked my feet in a peppermint oil infused Epsom salt bath. That helped some. I also took an Advil when I got home and an Advil PM before I went to bed. I think that was the only way I was able to get up and move Saturday morning. And we had a big family shopping trip planned so I kinda needed the use of my feet.

But on with my big spectacular fail.

So I kinda failed some Saturday at lunch at Zaxby's. Instead of ordering a salad, like I should have, I ordered a spicy chicken club sandwich and fries AND drank a Coke. I felt okay afterward, though. I didn't feel the headache or disorientation I had been feeling with high blood glucose in the past so I just kinda forgave myself for the slip and walked it off in the mall.

But then...yesterday, WBF and I met for lunch after church at a soul food restaurant we hadn't been to in a long time and they had an awesome and cheap Sunday blue plate. If you're not familiar with "blue plate" it generally refers to a "meat and three" menu of one meat and three veggies off of a sort of limited menu. It's already prepared so it's quick and usually loaded with delicious comfort food. Yesterday's offering was a choice between baked chicken and fried pork chop as your meat and field peas, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, cole slaw and potato salad. And in case you think cole slaw is a low carb option, you'd be wrong. Most soul food places add a bit of sugar to the cole slaw. So you know what I did, right? I got the fried pork chop, the mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, and field peas. OMG, it was all soooooo gooooood. I mean, the beans and peas were both cooked with hamhock or bacon. The pork chop was well seasoned, crispy crust on the outside and tender juicy on the inside. The mashed potatoes and gravy were well seasoned, creamy and lush. And y'all...this blue plate came with a dessert and drink. I got sweet tea and banana pudding and it was all oh, so gooooood. I mean...like, I haven't eaten that good in FOREVER. And obviously, by good, I mean delicious but not good for your body. I did have a slight headache after so I know I way overdid it on the carbs but a bit. But I didn't get sluggish or overly thirsty so maybe it wasn't THAT bad of a glucose high? Eep.

But you know what? I thoroughly enjoyed that meal and I haven't eaten like that in MONTHS. Likely won't eat like that for a long time. So I'm just pulling myself up by my proverbial bootstraps and getting back to business as usual today.
