Weekend Win!

I survived the long holiday weekend with no major setbacks. In fact, I weighed for the first time in a week and I am down another two pounds for a total of 20lbs lost since June!

Cue happy dancing.

I started out strong on Friday night when my mom invited me to go out to eat fried catfish and I turned her down!

I went out to breakfast with my niece Saturday and I did get a sausage biscuit. McDonald's, which is where she wanted to go, doesn't have anything low carb for breakfast! Well, I mean, they have oatmeal but...GAG. I also got a caramel macchiato and ended up drinking mine and most of my niece's because she decided she didn't like it. She thoroughly enjoyed the hotcake platter, though, so it was worth the jolt of biscuit and macchiato carbs to my system to see her so happy. We walked it off by going to a "flea market" at our favorite antique mall and walked all through the antique mall and a couple of other stores before lunch.

She wanted Dairy Queen for lunch because she wanted ice cream. Fortunately, DQ does have a grilled chicken and BLT salad on their menu so I got that and a Coke, per my deal with myself that if I went out to a fast food place where water isn't all that easy to come by, I'd allow myself one. I filled the cup full of ice, limited the volume of Coke and didn't get a refill, so I feel pretty good about it. And we walked that off, too, with more shopping.

I wasn't terribly hungry Saturday night so I mixed up a small batch of pimento cheese and ate that with about five multigrain crackers.

Sunday I left the house long enough to get groceries and then came home. I resisted the temptation to buy lunch before I left town and came home to eat a nectarine and a Kind protein bar for lunch and a chuck eye steak (cooked in a cast iron skillet with butter) and asparagus for supper.

My big labor day meal (ha!) was bacon and eggs for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and a handful of tortilla chips with salsa for supper. I wasn't terribly hungry most of the day so I just didn't eat much. I did drink a TON of water, a cup of coffee, and a cup of hot tea.

I started back with my weight training work out yesterday and again today. Now that mother nature is gone, I feel better, have more energy and actually am excited about getting back to it.

I'm SO READY to start seeing some positive changes to my body. I'm ready to see my belly, arms and legs tone up and shrink a bit. I realize that I'll never have a perfect body and I'm realistic enough about myself to know that I may not ever get below 200lbs, but I want to do my best to work at it. The more weight I lose, the better my chances are of killing this prediabetes thing.

My goals this week are to 1) limit my added sugar intake by cutting out coffee three days this week. I had coffee yesterday so I've got two more days I'm able to indulge. 2) only eat when I'm hungry and listen to my hunger signals...meaning, stop eating when I'm full, even if there's a good bit left on my plate. This is part of what I'm learning with Phit-n-Phat. I tend to get lost in my eating, though, so I'm going to hafta really work at quitting when I'm satisfied. 3) Not eat out at all this week. I ate out three times last week (not counting Saturday) for WBF's birthday so this week I'm going to do my best to resist temptation and any invitations I might get to go out for lunch. 4) Weight train every day for at least fifteen minutes.

I'm trying a new breakfast strategy, too. I realized that I was probably getting way too many calories and fat with my avocado/English muffin breakfasts and I was always hungry again by 9am anyway because I have to eat so early (6am) and would end up eating a snack or drinking coffee to compensate. So this week I bought some various fruit--peaches, nectarines, and apples--and a box of Kind bars, full of protein and fiber. I'm eating a piece of fruit around 6am with water...I always drink water with breakfast during the week...and I brought the Kind bars to work with me to eat around 9am with a glass of water.

I like the Kind bars because they are high fiber which makes their carb content lower, yet they have a chocolate drizzle that makes them taste like I'm getting away with something. AND, they're made from natural ingredients, and have plenty of healthy protein from cashews. I got the dark chocolate cherry ones. They're a little pricey but still cheaper than buying five avocados and English muffins! So we'll see how this works out. I've got to figure out a way to stay satisfied from start to finish without consuming a lot of fat, calories and carbs! If I'm not eating enough, that's when I give in to temptation and grab a bag of chips or sneak over to Panda. Or buy expensive coffee drinks to fill that void with empty calories.

Anyway, the 2lbs I dropped last week was just the boost I needed to keep me going down this path to better health!
